Oklahoma Flyers (or "Flyers") is a program designed to provide the youth of Tulsa access to riding, racing, and the enjoyment of cycling. Volunteers provide guidance and direction for first time riders, and some tips and tricks for our more adventurous and skilled riders. Oklahoma Flyers is in place to provide young athletes the tools they need to be a successful cyclist and citizen.
We offer the following three options for riding and will occasionally host a weekend ride or camp/clinic, be sure to follow us on Facebook to get the latest news!
- Beginner — The youngest group of riders, our single speeders, have one gear, a basic bike, and will typically do a short 2-3 mile loop finished with some quality playground time! We do allow riders with training wheels, or striders, but ask that parents ride along with their little ones.
- Intermediate — Our young geared riders, group 2, typically have 5-8 gears on their bikes, are learning the mechanics of shifting, and will ride between 5-10 miles on the river trail. As they progress in their distance, they will ride all the way to Turkey Mountain and back.
- Advanced — Our more experienced geared riders make up our 3rd group. These kids are riding 10-15 miles, and will go out on a ride that might include some road riding. This is done with volunteers that help facilitate the riding, and along parts of the WNR loop used by the adult riders.
